BLACKBERRIES
Because
blackberries have been around for so long their history is hard to track down.
Even scientists have difficulty separating it into species because the
blackberry has already intercrosses themselves so much through natural
selection into their critical composition. Originally from Asia, Europe, North
and South America this bramble fruit has been around for over 30 million years.
Modern blackberries are known as a weed in some places, especially in
Australia. Greeks used blackberries as a remedy for Gout, which is an
inflammation of joints usually in the feet. The leaves of the blackberry bush
were discovered to treat sore throats, mouth ulcers, and diarrhea by the
Romans. Egyptians used the dark color of blackberries to color hair. Judge
Logan in California developed modern blackberries in 1880 by cross-pollinating
raspberries and blackberries resulting in a thorn less bush that produces very
large juicy delicious blackberries.
